Take Care of Your Shoes

Many people like me suffer with plantar fasciitis; it’s pain in the feet, especially in the heel or arch. We feel it especially in running or dance aerobics. It frustrates me because I don’t always feel like exercising, and my hurting feet inhibit my ability to participate, making me feel like I wasted my time coming in the first place. When my feet hurt, it incapacitates my ability to accomplish other worthwhile activities.

In Ephesians 6, believers are encouraged to put on the full armor of God in order to deal with our common enemy: Satan. We have our shield of faith, sword of the Spirit, belt of truth, helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, and battle shoes to prepare to share the gospel of truth.

Battle shoes or boots are one of the most important parts of a soldier’s attire. No soldier can really fight well in a battle if they are suffering with painful feet. By wearing the proper shoes, a soldier can focus on what he or she needs to do to win the battle.

As Christian soldiers, we must not neglect our spiritual shoes. Our enemy knows that if we are ill-prepared in sharing the Gospel with those who are lost, he will gain ground in their lives. We can keep our spiritual boots in great shape if we ask the Lord for opportunities to share the Gospel, pray constantly for the lost, and search the Scriptures for nuggets of truth. The good care of our spiritual shoes allows us to boldly go into the devil’s territory and take back ground for the kingdom of God.
