A Summary of What We Believe
1. OF THE SCRIPTURES – We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired. It has God for its author, Salvation for its end, and is the supreme standard by which we shall be judged.
2. OF THE TRUE GOD – We believe there is only one true and living God; that he is an intelligent Spirit whose name is Jehovah, and that is the creator of heaven, earth, and mankind. We believe that in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost.
3. OF THE FALL OF MAN – We believe that man was created in righteousness, but by voluntary transgression fell from that holy state; and in consequence, all mankind became sinners.
4. OF THE WAY OF SALVATION – We belive that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who by his death on the cross, made a full atonement for our sins.
5. OF JUSTIFICATION – We believe that justification is the result of the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ to those who believe in him; that it includes, a pardon from sin, and a standing in grace of God.
6. OF THE FREENESS OF SALVATION – We believe that the blessings of salvation are free to all by the gospel, and that nothing prevents one from being saved, but his own voluntary rejection of the gospel.
7. OF GRACE IN REGENERATION – We believe, to be saved, sinners must be regenerated, or born again. This spiritual birth gives eternal life, and produces a new creature.
8. OF REPENTENCE AND FAITH – We believe that repentance and faith are sacred duties and inseparable graces; that godly sorrow works repentance and enables the pentitent one to trust in Jesus.
9. OF GOD’S PURPOSE OF GRACE – We believe that God’s purpose of grace is to call sinners to salvation; that it is perfectly consistent with the free agency of man, and is a display of God’s goodness.
10. OF SANCTIFICATION – We believe that sanctification is a progressive work, begun in regeneration, and carried on in our hearts by self examination, watchfulness, self denial, in Word of God, and prayer.
11. OF THE PERSEVERANCE OF SAINTS – We believe in the eternal security of those who are saved; that genuine believers will endure to the end, and that it is impossible to lose one’s salvation.
12. OF THE HARMONY OF THE LAW AND THE GOSPEL – We believe that the purpose of the law was to show the need for salvation, and the purpose of the gospel, is to show one how to be saved.
13. OF A GOSPEL CHURCH – We believe that a true church is a visible congregation of baptized believers; associated by covenant and fellowship in the carrying out of the Great Commission.
14. OF BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPPER – We believe scriptural baptism is immersion in water of a believer by the authority of the church; and the Lord’s Supper is a memorial to Christ’s death.
15. OF THE CHRISTIAN SABBATH – We believe that the first day of the week is the Christian Sabbath, and should be kept sacred to religious purposes.
16. OF CIVIL GOVERNMENT – We believe that civil government is by divine appointment for the good order of human society, and that we should obey the laws, except when contrary to the Word of God.
17. OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED – We believe that only those who are justified by faith in Christ are esteemed righteous in God’s eyes, and that this distinction holds in time and in eternity.
18. OF THE WORLD TO COME – We believe this world will be destroyed; that the judgment will follow; and that the righteous will enter into everlasting joy, and the wicked into everlasting punishment.
